Working in the watch industry

I personally can't get enough of watches and I absolutely love when people have a conversation with me over their watches. Do any of you work in the watch industry? I'd love to be a watchmaker but it seems sorta complicated to get into schools or get heard by one. If you guys do work in the industry what do you do?

Same, would love to work in the industry and chat with people. Watchmaker is a whole different level of skill and not sure if you would interact with a lot of people as a watch maker.

No, but I have had 3 hobbies that became jobs, & it ruined the enthusiasm and became "just" a job - admittedly better than most jobs, but it does drastically alter perception. The jobs were motorcycle mechanic, tattooist and my current career Vape shop.

However, I've always enjoyed my work and as they say " a man who enjoys his job doesn't work a day".

Good Luck 👍👍

My wife used to buy shoes from a gent who always seemed to be more interested in my watches than finding the correct size of walking shoes for the Mrs, he wore an older mint condition Breitling Navitimer. Eventually my wife shopped at stores with more attentive staff but the clerk and I became casual watch friends, he was quite knowledgeable. A few years ago, I was shopping with the Mrs and my sis in law in a quiet suburban mall when we ran into the same guy still selling shoes but he had taken an on line course in watchmaking and was taking in work servicing watches from friends and customers who knew about his sideline. He gave me his card but I still have my watches serviced by guys who work in shops with the most up to date equipment. My regular ad employs a gent that I know has been working as a watchmaker for more than 40 years and is in his 80s apparently it is not a calling that attracts a lot of young people.
