Infectious - Snippets of Familiy Watch Life

<ME sitting in my room in my wing chair, reading a book. SON bumps into the room.>

SON: Dad!

ME <Still reading the book>: Hm ...?

SON: I hate you!

ME <Closing the book. Looking at SON>: What?

SON: I wanted to relax! Just watching some YouTubes!

ME: Yes? What exactly are the news?

SON: I couldn't!

ME: Alright. What's my share?

SON: A watch peeked out from under the YouTuber's sleeve. I couldn't make out what it is. It kicked me off the Tube the whole time until he played the guitar and the watch was completely visible.

ME: Nice.

SON: Yeah, you see! 'Nice'! In another YouTube they talked about monetization in YouTube. They boasted about how much they would make. But I only looked at their watches and pens whether they meet the standards of what they said how much they would make. Like is it a precious watch, is the pen valuable?

ME <🤣>: What's wrong with this?

SON: How will I ever again enjoy the posing and bragging of YouTubers if I'm distracted by their watches, pens, knives and you know what? I'm too young to be sensibilized like that, you see? You infected me with the knife bug, the fountain pen bug and the watch bug!

ME: I get it. You're right. I'm guilty 😇.

My dad had difficulty learning the language of our adopted country of Canada( we Chinese do not have the benefit of an alphabet so learning English is more than picking up a new vocabulary)as the second son, it was my responsibility to accompany him to shop for the few essentials in his life where English was necessary. One of my fondest childhood memories is shopping for a Parker 75 at Simpson’s with my very particular father, we wore out the patience of two sales agents at the pens counter. After he passed, I carried that special pen with me into any meeting or conferences. I will pass along my small collection of pens to my daughters one day also.
