Should I be worried?

When I was growing up I never did really care much about watches. Born in 1980 I think I spent most of my childhood even without a watch, only wearing a Casio calculator watch just as everyone else was at school and later a G shock.

Getting more and more into the watch collecting hobby in my 20’s, buying watches from brands such as Diesel and Fossil trying to find out what I like. I was already passed digital watches by then. Obviously I later came at that point where I was also not that interested in quartz watches anymore and moved away from them because mechanical and automatic watches were just MUCH more interesting. I’m sure we’ve all been there.

The last 10 years I have been going into the rabbit hole even more and now I am ‘almost’ happy with the state of my collection. I have a few Tudor’s, an Omega, Hamilton, Seiko and others. Nothing special compared to some of you out here 🤞

My point is, I have spent more money on watches than I have done in the 34 years before that. Some of them I’ve sold, some of them I will keep and hope to pass on.

But now I think I’ve come full circle. This watch reminds me of my childhood and even for a 44 year old it’s so freaking cool 😎

This thing of beauty has been on my wrist now for a week and that never happens. Am I in trouble?

Have a great weekend everybody! greetings from Amsterdam

A beatiful story and sentiment my guy

I have the same one, I love it, it does everything and is just right. Great to hear your watch journey, greenings to Amsterdam.

My son in law is a few years younger than you are but appears to be an avid G-Shock guy along with most of his buddies. Not exactly a collector but does own multiple models.

I love reading these stories. Similar to yours, I have a large collection but, there are a few that mean enough to me that I would not hesitate getting rid of the rest. I question myself at times, why another Mike? When does it end? I have the same G-Shock and it also reminds me of my youth (one I would never sell). The next one I want to pick is a Timex Ironman.. just need the one more to the original lol . Good luck in your journey and thanks for sharing my friend, best🙂

Yes, you're treading dangerously and should get out of the water immediately!! I too, came full circle last year and purchased a Casio because I remembered how worry free they were to use when I was still in school. I ended up falling in love all over again with the accuracy, convenience, looks and price of these watches after a few weeks on the wrist, so much so that I've ended up with 8 and counting in a year's time!

My story is very similar to yours 😃

Last month bought GW5000U which reminds me on original G shock from 80’s.

G-Shocks are a great way to start a watch hobby 👏

Haha that’s what I’m talking about 😂 I am only now realizing how worry free this thing is. Tempting to buy even more but if I did buy more it would probably be the 5000U. Just not sure if it’s worth it.

Not trying to be critical but he moved onto a few quartz Shinola watches before I gave him one of my own watches, after all he married my daughter! Haha. Honestly I have never owned a G-Shock.

Same for me! Love my automatics but I’m wearing this more and more…

Most would consider the 5000U as THE square to own on account of the screw down case back, so I would consider it more as a replacement rather than an addition. If you're looking to add more, I would suggest the GBD200 or GBX100 models. Modern G-Shock squares with highly visible MIP displays and the convenience of Bluetooth connectivity for consistent accuracy. The only gripe most people have against them is the lack of tough solar. If that's important to you, then look into the GWB5600 line. MB6 AND Bluetooth, along with solar technology! In fact, I just purchased one the other day..
