Great solar watches from Seiko. I have it on a black racing strap. Love the look, hate the 24 hour subdial (wish it had a different function) and the date cutout.
Great watch - esp. in sizing and build quality. Solar makes it a great grab and go option for a collection. Only thing is I wish Seiko would move away from pin and collar bracelets, I trash those out the box for after market options.
Same as you I didn’t like the 24 sub dial and the date window which is too small, badly positioned and set too deep into dial. I also didn’t like the purple hue of the sub dials or the unnecessary Full/Empty feature on the sub dial at 6. The watch size made it wear great though and I liked that it was solar. Like you I wore mine on a black rally strap and the combination looked absolutely great but I couldn’t see beyond, what for me were, obvious flaws so it had to go. I replaced it with this extremely accurate Certina DS-2 presidrive. Clearly not as much of a ‘looker’ as the Seiko but IMO sorted out the design issues I had with the Seiko although not solar.

Love the look of these Certinas!!! I have the DS First in Titanium, but it wears too big for me, unfortunately. I'm currently trying to sell it :/ Again, the date integration here is perfect.
I love these Seikos, mainly due to their (perfect for me) sizing, and the color schemes. I actually bought the blue one around a year after I got the panda at launch. I paid around $350 for blue model, and I much prefer it to the panda, to be honest.
Teacher/Dean in NYC. Lefty that wears watches on the left, so sapphire crystal is a must (with a few exceptions). My collection is in the "affordable" range, with watches ranging from $150 - 800.

Enjoy the weather and wear in good health!
