Turns out I was wrong; it is turtles all the way down! (The A in SLA stands for A'Tuin). Anybody else seem to be gathering watches of similar models?...
Why have you stopped at four? Simple programmers like me can only count to many....as in 0,1,many....do collections start with many?
But it does have to do with curation, I think....I have over 30 watches but I don't consider myself a collector. If I see a watch I like I'll buy it, I don't think "well there's a gap in my collection for a 39.5mm chronograph...let's see what is available".
The only reason I could possibly consider myself a collector is because I never sell, flip, destroy, trade or bin watches (although I did give my brother a watch on his wedding day because he didn't have a suitable timepiece) but I think that makes me a hoarder not a collector.
That's a level of repair that I wouldn't really take on at the moment (maybe a little more practice (and equipment)) and I'll get there...but it's great to see somebody is taking it on. If ever there's a group of watches that deserve every chance it's these.
Yes, mine's the SLA049...I love it, but I do all these turtles...the SRPJ51 may be my fave (second one back).
I didn't really intend for this discussion to be a turtles only tribute, so thank you so much for sharing your broad arrow Hamilton's with us...and, er, second from the left? 🤔. I have been tempted so often to look at a watch from the dirty dozen but I just don't know enough, I feel more than a little exposed in that particular vintage arena.
I'm not surprised! The 313 looks amazing...surely that little red dot, particularly on this watch, is the most effective use of colour. I love it too...I'm trying hard not to buy buy one at the moment. 40-41mm is just about as small as I can go, so not an ideal size for me.
