Omega Speedmaster Chronograph 3511.20

Howdy there! New explorer into the watch scene. Looking to get some more info and thoughts around my recently purchase Speedmaster. I’ve struggled to find much info about this watch. Any thoughts / feedback / opinions, good, bad, the ugly are welcome 😊

Welcome to speedy land! I have the 3511.50 which is the black reverse panda in the same family.

These are not speedmaster reduced models. They are called speedmaster dates and were built for the Japanese market.

They employ the Valjoux 7750 instead of the piggyback movement. In theory this is a simpler movement to service. In reality they are older and not inexpensive.

I lost a pusher on mine and was quoted $900 for a service plus a pusher by Omega’s service center. They do not differentiate between the movements but charge more across the board for chronographs. My watchmaker sourced a pusher, installed it and regulated my watch for $150. Find a good watchmaker you trust now before you need them!

Another difference between the reduced and the date is pusher alignment. On date models the pushers are aligned evenly on the case.

I am in love with mine. It fits nicely on my wrist and gives me all the speedy feels. The sizing is perfect for me. The movement has a rotor “wobble” which you can feel at times when wearing it. I love this although it drives some people crazy.

Speedmaster mania is real whether it’s a reduced or a date or a new Daniel Craig. They are all lovely in their own way. I waited a long time to buy one and can’t see myself parting with it ever. Enjoy yours! It’s a beautiful watch!

TLDR- it’s a great watch-you’ll love it!

Thank you for such an informative reply! I’m extremely excited and eagerly waiting its delivery. It’s not something I will ever part with but just out of curiousity, with this model being built for the Japanese market, how does this impact the resale market?

Most of the neovintage reduced/date market lives between $1500-$2500 depending on wear, condition and bracelet (original and links available). Outside of that and higher are the Schumacher, Mark and random models like the ones made for the Marui department store and the crazy MOP dials.

Resale value stays pretty steady around these. If you decide to resale people will differentiate between the automatic “reduced “ models and the professional hand wound traditional models and as you know there’s a large difference in price. There are occasionally discussions around what constitutes a “true” speedmaster. Answer - it says speedmaster on the dial.

At one time the Japanese market was Omega’s largest (not sure about now). A lot of Omegas on the current resale market came from there.

There are incredible gems to be found from Japanese sellers. I have bought Omegas, Cartier, NOS Seikos and vintage Grand Seikos from trusted sellers on eBay. Every one of them was in better condition than described.

Post a pic when you get it!

I recently got the reverse panda version off chrono from a Japanese seller for about USD1.6k, no box no papers and paired it with a president style bracelet from uncle seiiko, loving it so far!

Go for it if budget isn’t an issue! You wouldn’t go wrong with either. Pretty timeless looking watches for sure!

1st generation Speedmaster 7750! I love it.

Personally I prefere the first generation in Blue and the second generation in white/silver.

You have a gorgeous watch… this first dial is so clean and straight to the point. Solid and elegant!
