It started with this one, the first nice watch I brought home

It wasn’t until I acquired my Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39 did I really deep dive into the the world of watch collecting. I’ve been a collector for a while but only halfheartedly. After this Rolex, I have been unable to escape the addiction since. For a few years I was satisfied with just this watch, it is such a perfect “do it all” kind of watch. It was my daily, my beater and for a time the only watch I wore. The many scratches show its history with me. I’m honestly not even sure if I want to have it polished when I have it serviced next year. I like the scratches now. It’s been all over the world with me. Tragically it’s starting to become less accurate over the years. Initially keeping +2 seconds per day, it’s now closer to +11. Almost time to send it back to Rolex for an oil change and tune up. I’ll definitely miss my time away from it when I have to bring it in for servicing. Do you prefer the more current Oyster Perpetual models or are you a fan of the discontinued or vintage models?

Any OP, in any of its guises, are what I see when I think of Rolex. It's the only model I ever dreamt of owning & luckily enough I've been able to buy the blue, silver & rhodium dial (the rhodium is technically an OP Datejust but I've refrained from the Jubilee bracelet & fluted bezel).

In short, it's a timeless classic that I'll always love. I feel lucky to have been fortunate enough to fulfill one of my watch dreams in being able to buy the ones I have.

You and I are on the same page here. Love the OP!

The 39mm OPs are absolutely gorgeous. I'd buy in a heartbeat if I wasn't content with my Rolex. Tried this on and loved it though. I plan to have mine overhauled when the time comes just to start fresh. Maybe that changes though...

Wow, that colorway is just perfect on that watch. Classic!

Love them, old and new style. My first Rolex was an Air King, then the blue Explorer style OP. I’ve been on the list for a turquoise blue 36 for two years now.

I do like their simplicity and clean clean lines. I think the 39 Red Grape would be my choice if I had to buy today new or pre owned of any style. Even the vintage gold or leather strap models are gorgeous and closer to that original Rolex DNA.

I believe in buying watches of the current time. If it's going to be your companion for life, then one should buy a new watch that has been recently manufactured, and a current model. 20 years from now, if I'm still around, the watch I bought 2 days ago will be 20 years old and will have travelled that time alongside me.

This is what makes your OP special. Not only is it a beautiful piece, it is also a witness of its era that you've allowed to reach the present day with its many scratches and souvenirs.

Totally agree!

LOVE the OP 39. I bought this one 6 years ago. I wasn’t specifically after a Rolex but the best example of a pared-down 3 hand watch. This was my choice.
