Introducing a buyer/seller page/tag

Hello everyone

Just curious about people's opinions on whether or not there should be a buyers/sellers page on this website.  I was actually surprised it isn't present already but I am curious if that is an intentional choice (to discourage this community from being flooded with such topics) or if it simply isn't something people are looking for.

Thank you for the understanding.

Would love a buyers/sellers page!

It's a tricky one because you'll potentially attract alot of people who are only here to flog a watch and disappear rather than be a part of a community. On the flip side there are some fantastic watches/collections I've seen on here, would love to be able to buy some of them...maybe all of them 😂

I think a buy/sell/trade segment of this website would be great. My guess is that it is intentionally absent. One possible reason being the owners/proprietors of this site wanting to avoid any liability issues. There’s probably a way to set this up while satisfying everyone involved, but I wouldn’t know how to do it. Watch Crunch…let’s get this done!

Yeah that is why I am a bit intrepid. I do understand that opening up a buy/sell page would potentially bring in the "watches are investments" crowd but selling/buying watches from fellow collectors is a part of how most collection based communities grow.

Hmmm didn't think about the liability aspect. Considering this seems to be a forum-based type community I wonder if (like reddit or other forum based communities) they are absolved from liability as long as its clear that the buying/selling of objects on the site is strictly peer to peer and that the website is only a platform for interaction and not a interacting entity in the transaction.

Aka as long as WatchCrunch isn't taking portions of the transactions between members and act as an intermediator I don't think liability is why they didn't create a sell/buy page

I think it would detract from the site's content. Nothing worse than endless FS posts with a gazillion bump posts to clog up the feed.

Between WUS, Chrono24, eBay, Reddit and FB sales groups, I think there are enough viable sales options already out there.

Fair point. I was mostly posting to get a feel from other members

The checks and balances and regulation would be too difficult in my opinion, trust would be the only way, and the unscrupulous have a way of sniffing an opportunity. There would be no way to police it.

It's a tough question. On the one hand, there certainly is no lack of places to sell a watch online and probably don't NEED another. On the other hand, I hope to (eventually) begin recognize people on this site and buying from someone who you "know" (even if only through the internet) is always appealing.

True. Even reddit and other forum based communities have slowly developed a number of systems to help combat scammers. Even those iteratively based methods have a lot of holes.

Many a time I’ve spotted a watch I like for sale on eBay, but not wanted to spend extra cash, however, I’ve had several for sale myself and wondered if some sort of swap could be arranged , however we’re back to the trust issue and how it would be regulated.
