Diver’s Style

This will be my first build, based on the SKX013. The harderst part has been sourcing a high quality dial for the NH36 that doesn’t have:

  • Bad lume

  • Counterfeit “SEIKO” logo or other trademark

  • Ugly manufacturer’s logo

  • “Diver’s” or other incorrect water resistance rating.

I’ve got a couple dials coming that just say, “Automatic” — hope they can work.

Tokeilab currently has an OEM SKX013 dial for sale, unless you don't want that, either?

OEM is certainly high quality, but it says "Seiko"— and I'm not trying to pass this build off as a real Seiko. Also, the slim case back I'm using is only rated to 100m. :)

These are all self-imposed constraints—some extra rules that make the project a bit more challenging.

Totally understandable. I don't mind using OEM Seiko dials, because my builds are for me. They are Seiko powered, usually Seiko influenced, and typically a mix of OEM and aftermarket parts. The mismatched water resistance bothers me as well. I'm dealing with that right now while planning a build. I'm also not a huge fan of some of the other branded dials, nor sterile dials. Quite the challenge, indeed! 😁

Of course, there's always the custom fabrication route. 😅 Might be economical if a few people pooled their resources.

Right now, I've ordered some custom-fabricated bezel screws for the original G-Shocks (the originals are hard-to-find) and sharing the costs with a group.

(This is an early sample screw; the thread pitch isn't right yet.)

I purchased an original Seiko dial from Watch Plaza.

Or you can ask in the Seiko Modders Club in Facebook for a custom dial.

As for online shops, Lucius Atelier, Modmode watches, Komoworks.

I am planning to do a GMT with the Certigaworks dial this year.

Thanks for the tips on the shops; I’ve only heard of Modmode. I’ll check out the others, as well as the Seiko Modders Club!
