Is this normal?

The top left chunk of the dial doesn't light up, I'm not sure if this is normal since I've seen many people having the same kinda lighting issue in the reviews...

Maybe it’s a commen defect on that model?

I have this one that is similar to yours and it seems like it has the same issue. I think it is common. I thought about trying to figure it out, but didn’t get a chance to fiddle with it.

Looks like that’s where the luminescent film had its edge — and either the switch that activates it needs a little space which now shows on the dial, or they have a slew they sort of cut wrong in manufacturing.

Not uncommon with Timex Indiglo. My Easy Reader has a minor flat spot missing on the top edge.

Amusingly, I just had to change the battery in my old expedition — when the screen is blank, it’s a giveaway — and now the weak indiglo simply doesn’t light up at all. Can see why Casio have stopped with the electroluminescent material.
