Jack Mason Miyota GMT hands-on review

  • I will have to say that it is a little over priced but still a great watch to own.

  • The sapphire bezel is so sweet to look at. Perfectly defines what an eye candy is.

  • I compare this watch to Nivada F77 and conclude that this JM looks and feels more premium than the Royal Oak homage.

When I first received this watch, I had to admit that I was a little disappointed due to the lug shape. This disappointment was gone at the very moment I put it on my wrist. Just a beautiful piece.

I purchased this after my other two addition to collection : Nivada Grechen F77($1000) and a Rolex Milgauss($8000). I can conclude that it looks and feel more premium than the former and definitely cannot be put together with the latter(what a surpirse lol).

The bezel, made of ss and covered by sapphire, is a great design piece to look at. It is not as solid looking as the ceramic ones but delicate enough in its appearance.

The gmt hand has red outline on its tip and it is a little overlapping with the dial color. Really wish the red could be brighter in order to create a nice contrast with the background black.

The $179 7-link jubilee band is of relatively low quality. The screws have already given me some trouble and one of them is pretty mushed.

Water tested it on the first day, I did swim with it for about 30 minutes. No problem detected. A more detailed and scientific test is recommended if you are concern with this feature.

The micro adjustment feature is really really handy on the 7 link band. Every watch band should have it in my opinion. The quick release is okay and could be tricky at times. You do need to use some finger tweaks in order to install them efficiently.

The dial is just OKAY. I used a loop to examine the finish and texture. I will say it is not bad, at the best. The exhibition case, just my honest opinion, is an overkill for a watch that does not carry a real delicate caliber. A stainless steel caseback is more durable and practical.

The watch box is so simple and cheap for a $1000 MSRP watch. I know people prefer simplicity or even minimalist design. But at lease use some premium materials. A box like this simply won’t do.

My conclusion: This strat o timer is a great piece to own and it is truly an GMT watch. The premium feel is well perceived by all of its owners. However, the price tag is really a little too high. Assembled in USA is a good selling point. I will give this watch a 10/10 if it’s at $700.

Rivalry:

  • The new Seiko 5 GMTs. This watch wins on almost every aspect. But the Seiko can be picked up online for less then 400 easy.

  • Squale GMT 300 series. I will say the Squale ones with ceramic bezel is a more worthy investment. Because you can buy them at sub-800 price point.

And I think it is simply ridiculous to require a review to have at least 1500 words. Lengthy reviews belong to 1988, not 2023. No one enjoy reading a long post on his or her mobile device screen. Instead, people will turn to YouTube for video reviews that are more easier to be perceived and digested, efficiently.

Seriously, being traditional or vino doesn’t mean you will have to cope with all those old abandoned things.

Once again, a review on a watch is not an instruction to disable the caliber. It should not be lengthy and tedious.

  • Extremely great finish on the bezel. Delicate and durable at the same time.
  • Perfect size for normal size wrists
  • Practically functional. Sapphire crystal, true GMT, and 200 meter WR
  • Original 7 link watch brand could be better. Especially when priced at 179
  • Price is a little hefty
  • Wasn’t this supposed to be a limited edition???

I had the same impression when I tried it on at the Windup Watch Fair. The bracelet felt cheap. I think the limited edition is just the Watch Crunch model. The others, I believe, are regular production

The Seiko 5 GMT uses a caller movement, not a travellers like the Miyota 9075.

Reminds me of my hmt watch the way those lugs look. It grew on me though.

Yup. Not a fan of that round looking lug shape either. But it is fine after all. The watch feels premium.
