I have wanted one of the new (6 months or so old now) Seiko Speedtimers since they came out last year in November.
While we got a day/date release here in Australia (no having to wait 1 - 3 months after the rest of the world), I am a particularly frugal horology enthusiast.
I couldn't justify the AUD$1050 at the Seiko Boutique, and have been sitting here in New South Wales watching the retail price slowly creep down... $950, 800, to most recently about AUD$750. (Except for the Panda 🐼 which has stayed at MSRP or higher)
Even then that's a little on the high side for my meagre budget. I once travelled the length of the East coast of Australia tracking down a King Turtle at a chain of jewelers that was on sale for $399... (Got it too!)
If you haven't noticed already, this is the JDM version as opposed to the SSC817 available in domestic markets. I have no idea what the difference is, if anyone can shed some light other than Seiko gets a tax break for every watch it sells in the Japanese domestic market...
This might go down as the frugalist of best bargain finding ever - happened to find it on Yahoo Auctions being sold 2nd hand (worn once apparently) by a car parts store!
JPY¥37,000 Buy It Now
Or about AUD$410 + tax + shipping (+ Australian tax grrrrrrr!🤪)
All up, AUD$540!
Took 6 days to get to Australia and I am over the moon!
