Cast my vote for central elections today. I simply had to wear the Indian heritage brand HMT Kohinoor today ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ The brand is almost as young as Independent India (India became free in 1947 and HMT was established in 1953, while Independent India has its first general elections in 1951-52).

India is the worldโ€™s largest democracy and voting is being held in 7 phases (I was in Phase 2). Phase 2 alone accounts for 159 million eligible voters. Overall there are around 970m people eligible for voting in current elections (out of total 1.4bn population). The voting in Phase 1 started on 19th April and the last phase (7th) will be on 1st June. Results will be out by 4th June. These elections determine who would be our next Prime Minister.

It was encouraging to see both young (first time voters) and old (some on wheelchairs) citizens turn up cast their vote. It is summer and temperatures can go up to 37ยฐC/98.6ยฐF but this hasnโ€™t deterred people from casting their vote. This indomitable spirit is what makes the country so awesome ๐Ÿคฉ โค๏ธ
