Tried on a Citizen diver for 30 seconds at a mall

Be nice to me, I don't get to the big city very often.

Sometimes I wonder why Seiko gets top billing among collectors when Citizen makes analogues of nearly everything, just with much better retail distribution. Tissot has an extensive mall lineup as well... holy crap, they make a LOT of seemingly 50mm+ Tissots... but that doesn't seem to impact the brand's prestige as much. Maybe Citizen is just missing affectionate nicknames for its product lines. Happy to start brainstorming these anytime.

In my rural part of Canada, Eco-Drives rule the roost and it's actually quite rare that I see anything else in the wild - even among lawyers and politicians. So I had to ask to touch this Citizen automatic when I saw it.

As a lefty, I love the crown on this watch - it's the only time I've ever experienced something user-friendly on my wrist. The solid case back also makes the watch feel a little less toy-like than other entry-level divers.

The one noticeable downside is that the bezel feels less fun than a Seiko SRPD - I sure hope it still functions just as well, but whatever shape they picked for their click spring, it's quieter and makes a less satisfying fidget toy for me. (I live nowhere near water. Let's not pretend that I would ever do anything useful with it.)

This one's not for me, but I would think differently if I encountered a lefty version of one of those Seiko Monster-alikes...

Valid about seemingly not as sought after. But in practice most watch enthusiasts will own or still own at least one citizen, or they should own one.

And much like the NHXX movements that are ubiquitous in the microbrand/DIY scene, Miyota's are the same thing from a different company last time I read up on it.

Far as names go, to me it begins and ends with two GOATS, the venerated Eco-Zilla and the Ray Mears. 😎

My Seiko bezel doesn’t hold a candle to my Oris. I’m not sure what bezel you’re getting with a Citizen.
