Waste of dial space

I like the mecaquartz movement - - except for one thing.

Why does Seiko insist on including a day/night indicator on a chronograph? If I look out of the window, I know.

So pls Seiko either drop the indicator dial completely or make it an hour timer or better still, a second time zone!

You never know, you might wake up and find yourself on Antarctica in mid-winter - how would you know whether it was am or pm? This could be critical as you freeze to death.

It’s really no less silly than the day/night colours on a GMT bezel. Somehow, that gets a pass.

Seiko doesn't insist on a day/night indicator, you can get a VK67 instead.

Any idea if a VK67 costs anymore than the VK63? It does seem like so many brands just default to the VK63. The 24hr indicator isn't nearly as useful as the 12 hour register on the VK67, yet it's rare to see the VK67 compared to the VK63

It's about the same price. Both movements are quite inexpensive. The subdials are arranged differently on the VK67, though.

But to be honest, I don't think customers are using these watches to track something for hours.

Fair enough. I don’t typically get chronographs without a 12 hour register because I use that feature often, but I know I’m probably in the minority with actually using it.

100% with you. Drop it and go bi-compax. Or at the least move it to 6 o'clock so it can just be ghosted behind the dial in a bi-compax arrangement.

I have seen some watches use that as a fun sun/moon indicator, which is at least better in my view.

For the most part, I have just learned to ignore it.
