First repair (sort of)

Hi,

I got this not working casio from ebay for 1 cent (plus shipping ๐Ÿ˜• )

I have no idea if the movement works or not, but the obvious problem was that the stem did not lock into the mechanism.

I couldn't be prouder of myself that I was able to fix that. Now the stem stays in its place and it even works as it is supposed to. ๐Ÿ˜€

What I'd like to ask you guys, is if you can't point me to a watch repair forum that it's friendly for rookies?

I'll never be a watchmaker and I don't aspire to much more than being able to replace a quartz movement, and maybe even replace a damaged cristal or a broken stem and crown. But I have the fix bug, and I can't just be a cheap watch collector.

Again, it's like it was when I was a pipe smoker, I couldn't buy expensive pipes but I could buy estate pipes from ebay and make them look new again. I think I'm going to walk the same path with watches.

No specific sites to recommend friend, however you should have left the crown/stem out and replaced the whole movement , I canโ€™t see the manufacturer of the movement but you should see a arrow/pointer around this area that you press to remove the stem/crown, once itโ€™s out you can replace the movement . If you find out the movement you can then determine the hand sizes and source new hands etc,

There are lots of videos on utube etcโ€ฆ,

Yes, I know, the new movement is on the way, it's a cheap Epson VX3JE. I never expected to be able to reset the stem so the 1st thing I did was order the full movement.

I'm waiting for batteries too. Now for sure I will check if the old movement works before installing the new one. I would be a shame if my 1st success was totally meaningless.

I had to remove the 3 screws that hold the bridge that it's over the stem works, it was not too hard, probably I have more than 30 screwdrivers of all sizes in my home, but only 1 that it's 1mm.

But you don't imagine the fight it was to replace that screws with a highly magnetized screwdriver. It's nightmare stuff... ๐Ÿ˜€ I don't want to have to do it again, never. Magnetized tools are handy for a lot of things but NOT for watch making tasks... No sir...

Already sent for a cheap set from Aliexpress.

The next challenge will be re-installing the hands. The sub dial hands are so small that I had to use a blade to get under them in order to pop them out. It looks so easy on the YouTube videos, well, it is not !!!

Use some Rodico to help refit the hands ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
