Have you heard about the Berlin watch brand, Askania?

I'm curious if any of you are familiar with this brand. I recently noticed their store and learned that it's quite old. I have to say, I really like their logo. I don't know about you, but with many watch brands, I find the logo on the dial bothersome if it doesn't align with my taste. However, that's not the case with this brand. Interestingly, the brand is older than Rolex and its logo bears a striking resemblance to the Rolex logo, which surprised me.

I happened to pass by their store by chance. Here's a picture.

As a Berliner, I naturally wanted to buy one immediately, especially since they have models named after my district. However, the watches are quite expensive. Additionally, I was told that they source their movements from Glashütte.

Never heard of the brand before, but happy to hear about it here. They certainly are expensive, from a certain point of view, but for the right person, looking for just this type of thing, it might be quite right.

·

Hey. They have also a store at Ku’damm.

If I am not wrong I thing there where ones one of the biggest Watch companies in Germany.

And the Hof in Berlin mitt called Askania Hof ?! 🧐

I mean there assembled ones there watches there at that location.

It’s a quiet interesting company story and the watches are well made.

Oh yes, of course, I should mention that as a starting watch enthusiast who is still studying, the prices are a bit steep for me.

Yes, it's unfortunate that this brand isn't well-known. I mean, there's hardly anything to find about it on YouTube.

I lived in Berlin for a while. Askania’s advertising can be found in abundance throughout the city. I’ve been to their store/workshop, which has a lighter Bremont-boutique feel, albeit with an open area work shop where they repair (and it looks like assemble) watches. It’s really a very pleasant experience being in their store. As far as being their biggest brand, I do think Lange, Glashutte Original, and Sinn are still considered more popular by the masses.

Unfortunately, their designs don’t really speak to me. But of course, what is nice on the eyes to me may not be to you (you - in general), so follow your heart if you love the watch. One small criticism I have is that their asking prices are extremely high - I think entry point is close to $2k. They go up to the low 5-figures. It may be better to pursue on the second hand market.

And the logo is very interesting, I agree. Not being aware when I initially saw the logo, I thought someone named Ania had something to do with the company. Nope, not the case.

I will say they appear to be a very well respected brand within Germany, and they have a devoted fan base. Best of luck to anyone who decides to pick one up.

Not familiar with the brand but dig the logo - have to go check out their offerings 👍

Honestly I had no idea 😅

I know the brand since probably 2008/2009. I never checked them on YouTube because I do always window shopping. I think the made nice watches but they don’t appeal to me quite much 🤷‍♂️

But is that that no one talks about them. I think everyone good watch brand deserves a true fan base they can work with.

Do you have a model you fall in love with:) ?!

I appreciate the company's rich history and longevity, which I find impressive. The logo holds significant importance for me, especially when it's displayed on the watch dial. However, I haven't found a watch that truly resonates with my taste. Some models from the Tempelhof series come close, but for me, the emphasis lies more on the logo and the company's history.

I have not, but you have peaked my interest.

It seems like they use Miyota movements in a lot of their lower-priced watches. I saw some Seiko, too.

I opened a thread couple of days ago where we discuss the topic logo, Fonds and how there balanced. I think too that a logo design etc is definitely important. I don’t by a watch if I don’t like the logo 😅

I agree, think the probably coolest part ist the history of the brand.

But it’s good for the brand when younger people start recognizing the brand

AskAnia like most watch brands use different movements. ETA 7750, Ronda and SW-200 to name a few. If you look at other watch companies and who is the true owner you’ll see the exact same.

The brand is coming to the United States in January 2024. My partner and I have obtained the exclusive North American rights to deal AskAnia luxury timepieces on this side of the pond. We are excited and eagerly awaiting our launch.

Oh, for sure. I understand that! I have several watches that use those movements. I don’t mind them.

I was just pointing out to the original poster that the movements didn’t appear to actually be manufactured in Glashütte. You’ll see his comment above my response.

Most luxury watches use outside movement systems as it’s not practical to assemble their own with the constant technological advances. The ETA-7750, Ronda and SW-200 to name a few are used not only by AskAnia, but othe top tier watch companies. All they do is tweak them to their liking.

Why did you decided to go with askania?

My business partner is the one who does all of diamond work for their special editions. We expressed interest in becoming a dealer in North America. We met with the team and we all felt it’s a great move to help further establish the brand. I have a Bremen dive watch and absolutely love it. Also my Partner is a Berlin native who I met when I was stationed in Berlin with the Berlin Brigade. So it’s more than just a love of the brand and their operations. It’s my forever attachment to my favorite city in the world.
