1969 Birth Year Watch Ideas?

Hi everybody, and happy fall. I’m wondering if any of you have any 1969 model year watches you would be willing to share pics of. As 1969 is my birth year, I would love to add a watch from that year to my collection. I’m open to any and all ideas. What makes it tough as I do have a large 8 inch wrist so watch size, especially lug to lug, it’s tough in that time period.

Speedy is an awesome suggestion since that is currently lacking in my collection and is on my list. I wonder how much of a premium those go for? Very cool birth your watch. Is that inner disk the seconds?

I bought my speedy a long time ago, like 30+ years ago. I think it was $1,200 but it will be a lot more now, that's for sure. The birth year watch is an alarm watch, the inner disk is the time you set for that alarm to ring.

For a birth year watch I'd go with something that embodies that era. So a 1969 Speedy is an excellent suggestion as it's the year of the moon landing and you can't get much more historic than that. I imagine they attract a premium.

You could also go for a 1969 watchmaking milestone - the year of the first automatic chronograph watches. All three were released in 1969 - Zenith El Primero, Seiko 6139 and the Buren/Hamilton/Breitling/Heuer/Dubois-Depraz Chronomatic.

Alternatively you could go for a "nice watch" for the everyman of the time. So for the late 60s I'd suggest a modernist solid gold dress watch. This is one from the late 60s that I enjoy wearing:

This is the wrong size - but wanted to share it as it’s from 1969 (the model having been introduced in 1968.)
