My grandfather was in the textile business. He sold bespoke suits, and wore a Bulova watch exactly like this. Luckily, I was able to track down this watch serendipitously.

When I wear the watch, it makes me imagine what it was like being him. Sometimes I imagine myself in the 1940s era, wearing the watch while dressed in a tailored gray suit, walking along the cobbled streets in Intramuros, Manila. I let myself have fun with my imagination. That’s the appeal of vintage watches. The watch keeps really good accurate time, considering it’s almost 70 years old.
Vintage watches are historical artifacts of the design aesthetic and engineering from yesteryear. In today’s age where most of the stuff we own are disposable, mechanical watches are built to last a lifetime and more. It’s a wearable working jewelry that can be passed on to your son or daughter. A reminder of your time in this terrain.
