For the context, I live in Switzerland and am goind to NY this summer. I am wondering whether it is safe to wear a nice watch there. I am thinking of something like a Speedmaster, not a gold Patek for example :)
New York is not the mythological crime den of Batman comics and b-movies that it was in the 1970's. Most of it is very corporate and banal. The subway is an x-factor, fwiw.
That being said, as I mentioned on a similar post - maintain situational awareness and don't present yourself as a soft target and you will increase your chances. Enjoy one of the great cities!
