Help me identify my father in law’s watch - 1960 LeCoultre time only

Hi all,

My wife just got her fathers watch. It was purchased in 1960 in New York City, is marked only with “LeCoultre”, is gold. Would anyone know the best way to find an actual reference number?

Apologies in advance for the poor image quality. I don’t have the physical watch, that’s the photo my mother in law texted to my wife.

Thanks!

Remove the case back?

Possibly it is a ref 3027, circa 1960s.

Hope the crown is in place 🙂

As @Eliminator suggested, serial numbers are often inside the caseback on these vintage pieces.

Indeed, if the watch is still in the original condition, you should find the real reference and serial numbers inside the case's back.

Thanks all. I’ll update once we get the watch. It does look, as @zz.jlc suggests, like it’s probably the 3027.

Okay. So I have the watch now. I don’t think it is the 3027, based on the flared lugs. My mother in law says it was definitely purchased in 59, 60, or 61, most likely 1960.

It will wind and keep time, but winding is difficult. The crown os really small.

Any further reference sleuthing would be appreciated!

I’ve taken the case back off, and it is a 3021. Internet searches aren’t returning anything useful. It’s a beautiful automatic movement, but does appear to need some servicing, as it will only hold time for about 10 minutes, then stop. Here’s movement and inside case back photos…
