Grand Seiko in Switzerland

Unbelievable but true, there is only one authorized GS dealer in the whole of Switzerland. That would be similar if there was only one Lexus dealer in Germany.

Drive to Bern to the only dealer, order from Hodinkee or wait until a flagship store opens in Zurich?

Wow.  That's crazy.

I just looked it up on Google Maps, and the good old GOOG's says that it's a 1h 37min drive or a 54 min bus ride from Zurich to Bern.  Totally worth it, in my opinion.

I've come to believe that specs only tell you about 10% of what you need to know in order to make an informed decision.  Based on photos, videos, and reviews, I was 100% positive that the SBGJ249 and the SBGY007 were going to be my first GS purchases.  Once I was able to try the watches on in-person, I realized my actual preferences were entirely orthogonal to my imagined preferences, and ended up getting the SBGJ237 and the SBGE257 instead!

It's probably one of those things where you don't want to order online, sight unseen, and then experience buyer's remorse later, yeah?  Besides, I've heard that the Berner Platte is to die for, so you can make a day of it!

Many thanks for your answer. I guess you're right. Moreover, my favorite SBGW267 is Europe only.

Have you ever tried to talk Japanese watches with a Swiss person? It's a topic I would generally avoid. There is often still a sentiment that the Japanese stole their technology. So, I'm not that surprised.

I haven't got that far yet; must first explain that there is indeed an outstanding watch industry in Japan for high-quality watches.

What can I say? I wish you luck. 😀

P.S.: I'm not trying to mock the Swiss, but there are certain cultural sensitivities involved.

I agree, I have a large collection that includes three GS watches. I never by anything over $1k without seeing it in the store and feeling it on the wrist. My first GS purchase was a Winter, when I thought I wanted either a Spring or a Snowflake. Later I chose the Skyflake over the Snowflake because of my personal side by side comparison. Good luck with your choices!

Yes I know it's a pity. I think we keep a grudge on the quartz crisis.

Anyway the AD team in Bern is excellent !
