The 1981 Seiko a257-5010 Chronograph “Delorian”

I recently asked grandma if she had any of Grandpa Jim’s old watches tucked away, and this post is just sharing my excitement as I got this Seiko a257-5010 up to wearable condition again!

The watch is from 1981. I got most of the grime off with a toothpick and gave the bracelet a bath in rubbing alcohol. With a new battery I think this watch holds up today!

Anyone know how difficult it would be to find and replace the acrylic myself?

I assume the bent spring bar was replaced? I imagine you'd need a donor used crystal and that polishing with Polywatch, toothpaste, or metal polish would be simpler unless there in damage beyond the superficial.

I replaced the spring bar with a spring bar I had laying around. The replacement is a little thin but I didn’t have better 16mm spring bars at the time
