Italian U-Boat watches

Does anyone have any experience with the Italian U-boat Oil-filled watches? I’m very drawn to them and have seen them several times in U-boat dealers while in Italy. But don’t have the nerve to pull the trigger on one. Would be interested in knowing if anybody has personal experience, handling or owning one. Thanks.

No, but I'm interested in them too so following this thread. Hopefully someone will comment something useful soon. Cheers mate 👍🏻

Just get one. You'll love it. I have one for some time and that are excellent. Just make sure you get the new version with battery door isolated from the oily part of the watch.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the oil? Making the watch more water resistant.

Maybe but it sure does help NOT making a mess and refilling oil at every battery change.

I thought that the oil is for being able to dive deeper. But with this watch I assume it's more for show. That said ... I'm not a divers beyond 40 meters :-)

Thank you all for the input! If I do get one, it will definitely have the battery compartment separated from the oil. From what I understand, and I could be wrong, the oil in these watches is more for show, especially with the inserted air bubble which moves around. It also helps lubricate the internal components. But I’ve not heard anything about it making it more water resistant. Not a diver myself so extra water resistance isn’t something I’m too concerned about.

@accutron is wearing one daily in the 1wc competition. You’ll probably see his post in #wruw

I love mine do death, but have a lot of feelings about it as well. Mine does not have the separate battery hatch so I had to send it to Italy (I live in the states) to get the battery changed…. It also has weird bolts rather than spring bars, making strap changes very difficult, so I just have it on natos so it’s easier to switch. It’s also really thick with the domed crystal. Also, mine is the full sized Capsoil, not the Dark Moon collection like in your pictures… It was my grail, I found a used one that was cheaper than I had ever seen, got it, had a lot of regret at first because of all the things I mentioned, but have ended up really loving it. Let me know if you have specific questions.

Thanks so much, A domed Crystal is one of the things I think I would like. The air bubble in the oil with the domed crystal should make for a really cool affect when looking at it from different angles. And having the battery and it’s one compartment would be a must for me. Thanks again.

I’ve got this version and have had it since last Xmas. I’ve had no issues with the Oil and the battery is easily accessible via a separate opening on the caseback which means you don’t have to ever worry about refilling the oil.

The air bubble they leave in is mesmerising to watch floating around and it’s a real conversation piece.

I bought mine used from Chrono24 and had an issue where the movement stopped due to a battery contact issue.

U-Boat paid all my freight costs and fixed it without any drawn out fuss. Honestly the best warranty claim I’ve ever had to process for any type of goods.

I have 2 U-Boats and would recommend them without hesitation.

I should mention that the new version of the Darkmoon (2022 models) all come with the separate battery and oil access so you can change the battery without having to return it to Italy.
