Believe it or not, but this little fella is an important piece of horological history. The Pebble (or Pebble Classic as it was called later) was the first commercially successful smartwatch of all time. Its initial Kickstarter campaign broke many records and made headlines around the globe. For a few years, Pebble was the worldwide leader in smartwatch sales. Unfortunately, the competition not only managed to catch up but also soon overtook Pebble with feature-packed devices that were technically way more advanced. The final nail in the coffin was the release of the Apple Watch in 2015. The company was severely in debt and ultimately shut down in 2017, after being acquired by Fitbit in late 2016.

Even though I don't use smartwatches anymore, it's nice to take this thing out of its box from time to time and pair it with my phone, just to reminisce about the good old times when having a watch that could communicate with your smartphone was the coolest thing ever!

My brother had one of these and it was fun to mess around, adding games…

I had one when they first released. There was nothing on the market like it at the time. Unfortunately I no longer have it...good to see one still around.

Wow, thanks for sharing your pictures! The coolest thing about our watches are the memories we create with them, amirite? 😉

I had two of them that I got from the original Kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately they suffered from a well known defect that caused a display corruption that got worse until they could no longer be worn.
