Heart Surgery on my Dad’s old Citizen

This watch sat in a drawer my entire childhood and I never thought much of it until later in life when I began my journey into the vast world of watches. My parents told me they took it to a watchmaker years ago when it stopped running and were told that it wasn’t worth saving so it was tossed in the drawer of other forgotten things alongside old cell phones and keys for apartments my parents hadn’t lived in for decades.

A few months ago I got into fixing up watches and modding, so I decided to take a shot at this old beauty. After attempting a battery change (I figured start cheap first) with no signs of life, I knew this would be a slightly more involved job. First I had to find a donor movement, which was nearly impossible. I finally found an older citizen (and one that has aged much worse than my Dad’s IMHO) and had it shipped from Morocco.

It arrived and luckily the movement was ticking away! Into surgery. Overall not a terrible job, although that small seconds hand was definitely a pain. Now to find a suitable strap, throw some poly watch on the crystal, and return to my dad. I did tell him I was going to take the watch, but have given him no further updates so I can’t wait to see his reaction. Even got some spare parts for a future project out of the deal!
