To be perfectly honest, I don't understand why someone would buy this, if they are not a hobbyist and can service the watch themselves. You essentially have a rather complicated setup that serves no particular purpose. I mean, it's interesting to take apart and rebuild, but as a regular consumer I wouldn't touch it.

You are totally right concerning that it's over engineered while actually fixing nothing. Sometimes I wonder what these guys are thinking when they create things like this. Saying that though (even though it makes no business sense for them) if they just correctly oiled and regulated the thing then they would have something reliable.

The odd things is, to do this right is actually a rather expensive part of building a watch, as it involves a lot of (skilled) labor. Putting the same mainspring housing in the same place, watch after watch, is probably easy and inexpensive in comparison, as it is for every other well-defined step in the assembly.
But I have a pretty good idea why they are creating things like this. Two balances can become a differentiator in the early morning weekend hours on TV. These hours when a Chinese ETA-clone with a rotor sticker becomes an "ETA-inspired in-house movement". 😉
