Problem with the Lunar Pilot ? Help needed

Hey everyone, long time cruncher, first time poster here.

I am in need of your guy's help with one of my watches.

I have got the Bulova lunar Pilot 45mm in my collection for about a year. I really love and and find it beautiful.

Yet there is a problem...

  • From time to time (and since the beginning) after I use the chronograph, the seconds hand does not return to 12 o'clock but goes back to another position.

  • Sometimes the 1/10th of a second hand does the same.

  • Sometimes the second's hand does even stop without me having pushed the pusher.

Restarting the timer and reinitializing it does not help, the hands go back to their positions which are faulty.

All of this to say that when it happens, I have to manually reset the position of the hands that have issues.

This problem does not appear too often (sometimes multiples times in a week and sometimes only once in a few weeks) but I would guess it should not happen full stop. Even more since people love the Lunar Pilot for it's movement.

So my question would be : have any of you got this problem ? Is it an issue ? Is it normal ? Should I return it for inspection ? I still got 1 year of warranty and would like your opinion on it.

Thank to all of you who read this long post and I hope you guys have a nice evening

Nicolas from Belgium

I don't know if this is a typical misallignment of the chrono hands, which is typical and easy to set, depending on the movement type.

Check out my article about and also the comment sections.

But your problems sounds different and if I understood you right, you already die a manual setting of the hands.

I think in that case there might be some damages or quality issues with the movement. Especially the mechanical parts.

Thank you for your response. Yes I have already realigned the hands multiple times and yet the problem reappears...

I'll add that you might replace the battery after what @Uhrologe listed above first. Otherwise you might have an issue with the movement.

Thanks for your message. Why would you think the problem is linked to the battery? The problems have occured since the beginning but the battery was new

Because I know some quartz movements will act strange. Mine will tick every 2 seconds which is a power savings mode letting you know the battery life is dwindling.

If it was malfunctioning at the beginning I would have sent it back.

I hope you find a solution. It's a nice watch.

I have a Lunar Pilot and have not run into this issue. Since it's still under warranty I'd have it checked. Hopefully they can give you a satisfactory resolution. It is a beast of a watch but in a good way.

I would recommend you take it for inspection, especially with your warranty being valid for 1 year.
