Moonswatch tryout - failed.

I heard many times that every watch collector needs to own a Speedmaster at least once. Although Speedies never appealed to me, I decided to use the Mission to Mercury Moonswatch as a low-cost tryout to get the case shape and general look on my wrist for a few days in everyday wear. Perhaps I was missing something and things would just “click” once I spent some time with it.

Well, having owned this for about a month, even swapping out the truly awful Velcro strap for a fitted rubber piece, I have to report that this experiment was a fail. Even after looking at it in a variety of lighting and settings, I cannot deal with the asymmetrical Speedmaster case. It always looks like it was either made wrong or wants to topple over to the right to me since the right lugs and case side are noticeably wider than the left. I will admit that the cheap quality of the Swatch construction probably doesn’t help things, but I am now clear I will not spend money on a real Speedy. Honestly, this is still a pretty inexpensive way to figure out Speedies aren’t for me, so I am still glad I gave this a try.

Love the strap you chose. Looks amazing to me, but I’ve never worn one

you cannot truly appreciate success without experiencing failure. i cant wrap my head around a speedmaster yet either.

I've never lusted after the Speedmaster like so many do. I have bought 3 Moon Swatches and they also confirmed that a Speedy won't be on my to-buy list. In fact, they also confirmed I have no desire for a Chronograph either.

But I do like the Moonswatches.
