I find that the watches you wait for end up being more cherished, and are more likely to stay in the collection long term. The ones with instant gratification wear off quickly and I fall out of love with them quickly as well.

I've had a couple of watches come in after a wait, they were worth the wait. I tend to not buy unless I'm 99% sure I'll love it, so that helps.
