Casio ProTrek general altitude question

Hi guys,

Just wondering how the altitude works on these watches. I wondered about the same thing when I had my Garmin watch. When the pressure drops, the altitude goes up I noticed. And vice versa. Does that apply for all watches that have these features? Is there a way to just set the altitude and always have it constant? Just curious.

Thanks!

You can set your base altitude. Just go to the altitude mode and either hold the 'adjust' pusher or pull out the crown (whichever one is applicable). Use Google or a chart to determine what your local altitude is.

I'd imagine as barometric pressure fluctuates you're gonna see temporary changes in altitude as well, but those changes would be expected and would return to base altitude once the weather passes.

This and or barometric pressure changes is how I use mine usually. Some ABC watches even have the ability to set an alarm for drastic changes.

Take for example hiking in a canyon, massive change could mean water headed your way, be advised and come up with an exit.

Same for working outside in higher altitudes, getting caught in a freezing downpour sucks if unprepared.

Aaah ok. I got it now. Thank you for that info. That’s great.

And the other question I had, what’s the best way to calibrate the temperature sensor? I know it’s gonna be above “normal” temp when on the wrist. Is it best take it off wrist and go outside until it settles down since I would know what the temperature is like outside and then adjust it?

Yes. Remove it from the wrist for at least 5 minutes and then calibrate it to known good temperature. Afterwards you're just gonna have to remove it from your body for a few minutes to get any kind of accurate reading.

If you need temperature readings in real-time then you're better off straping the watch to your backpack or belt loop.

Got it. That makes sense. Thanks guys!
