Boderry skeleton watch lens

Hi guys,

Looking at the Boderry watches (again…) specifically their skeleton ones (or even non skeleton) and I’ve noticed in the photos that the lens on those models sticks up a little above the housing. It’s a sapphire lens, but I was curious if you guys have experience with that or seen that in other watches and how easy it would be for that lens to crack if accidentally hit on the edge of it.

Thanks!

It’s a little exposed to chipping but it would be rare. I think it’s a nice aesthetic because the exposed edge of the crystal catches light and adds another design element to the watch. I wouldn’t let it dissuade me from buying the watch.

I see. I’m usually really good with my watches and electronics in general. So was a little curious. I don’t do anything crazy to smash the watch but you just never know. Thank you for your reply.

A lot of manufacturers from affordable to luxury have sapphire crystals that go slightly over, or even waaaay over. From flat, to square to tophat, double dome crazy heights.

From my experience, it's gonna take an oddly exact and VERY hard strike to chip it. Like hella hard, against a sharp concrete edge, etc.

It would be far more likely for the face of the crystal to crack. If it does, any competent watch maker can slap a new one in.

Heck I know of a few WC modders who can prolly get more specific in a DIY.

That makes sense. I’m just not used to seeing that very often so I had no idea if that a “cutting corners” thing or just a design of the watch. Thanks!
