Set up / Comparison / Conclusion

Okay, hang in there with me. I generally don't think or communicate in a straight line so we might weave around a bit.

Here we go.

The set up: So I ridden motorcycles for the better part of 40 years. I've owned a Harley or two for most of those. But I've also owned and ridden Japanese motorcycles, British bikes, and a really fun Italian ride. My appearance can sometimes be a little rough. I've worn my hair long, shaved my head, I've had beards, goatees, and mutton chops. I sport a tattoo or two and have even been known to get a piercing or two in the past. Outsiders and passerbys have often referred to me as a biker (or a bikie if you're on the other side of the pond). But I have never considered myself a biker. Ever. Bikers are a different level of human being. They have an intensity I'm not capable of. I'm just a guy who likes to ride motorcycles. I've enjoyed reading about motorcycles. I've watched some videos about them. If I'm feeling froggy, I've even been known to enjoy wrenching on one or two. But still not a biker, just a guy who likes riding motorcycles.

Here's where I try to make my point

The comparison: I discovered an interest in watches a few months ago. It's a silly connection to my dad. I enjoy reading about watches, and I sometimes watch videos about watches. Once I got froggy and changed the dial and hands on a Seiko mod I have (It turned out great, but I'm going to need better glasses if I'm going to try that again). And I own some watches. Probably about a dozen. A few decent quality swiss watches, a few cool Japanese watches, I even have one cheap a** fun Charlie Brown watch I really like. But I would never consider myself a watch collector. Ever. Watch collectors are a different level of human being. They have an intensity that I'm just not capable of. I'm just a guy who enjoys wearing watches. I have no interest in a "Grail" watch. If I own more watches then I can wear regularly, I have too many. From the outside looking in I may look like an entry level watch collector. But still not a watch collector, just a guy who likes to wear watches.

Here's where I wrap it up.

Weak a** conclusion: Am I wrong? Is there a number of watches that makes you a watch collector ? Is it the value of your watches? I'm interested in your opinion, what makes you a watch collector?

Here's where you let me have it and I kick back and read.

And GO!

I believe that the term “watch collected” can be translated in many ways. I have 16 watches and I just consider myself a watch enthusiast. I just simply buy watches that I like and don’t always care what others say about them. I’m buying them for me to have, enjoy and wear them. So, I would say a “watch collector” could have one watch or many watches, it just depends on your goals. I don’t believe that a collector always has to have expensive items, just items that you love and enjoy.

BTW, I love your watches!!

My personal definition of a watch collector is "anyone who owns more than one working watch which they wear regularly". Regularly can be as seldom as once a year.

Truthfully, who cares?

As a motorcycle & watch enthusiast, I can relate 😂
