I do know the judges ahead of time, but very rarely the theme.

The real sticky point would be the fact that I can just set the theme myself if I chose... or shut the thread early or late to suit me.

I am in total agreement with your comments on going with the unexpected watch, and also really enjoy seeing how people wear their watch as part of a complete outfit.

I think going with a contrasting dressy piece was a classy move 👌

Being on the edge of the Peak District would give them plenty of options....

...but my personal pick would be a dial based on the beautiful stone used in construction...

....or possibly something related to Ladybower reservoir and it's massive plugholes...
