Grippy Band Casio Royale Achieved!

The results of the "clarion call" poll and chat were mixed, but there was a clear leader in the selection of a strap for my AE-1200 "Casio Royale." I asked for options to grip my wrist just enough to avoid flipping the face into an unreadable position. I've got mediocre circulation so it was an important question, and I really really appreciate all the thought people put into their comments and votes. While every choice had it's champions, confirmation bias ultimately won the day, and the silicone strap won a plurality. Truth be told I already had a black diamond patterned Barton Tropical -- my first and for now last Barton -- on order. It was cheap and pretty on Amazon, but finally too stiff and thick for comfort.

Today, I thought I would try again, this time with the strap from my WV-58R. Despite the amazing similarity in interior and exterior measurements, wings, lightness, color, etc, the wedges on that strap were not compatible with the Royale. The strap stuck straight out from the lugs, similar to problem with the Barton but for different reasons, plus there was a weird tiny canyon between the strap ends and the case. It will go back to the Waveceptor from whence it came where it will continue to serve that Jetson's/retro-future aesthetic well.

I have a hard time getting rid of unused watches, resulting in a Swatch Gent gathering dust on a stand. But in a last ditch effort, after losing hope, rifling through all my watch parts (and silk ties!), Maybe, Maybe, I had a soft silicone strap that I could swap in! So, I pushed and pulled the Swatch brand metal rod from each lug hole area, jammed conventional spring bars in the too small silicone holes, and wedged it into place on the Royale. I think it looks nice. The color combo works for me. The fit is not perfect for my wrist size and the grip is a bit much on my arm hair (yes I still have it in spite of wearing Casios bracelets!). Might have to widen a hole or something but... Good enough for now🥱🥱🥱
