Greetings from a new member

Hi everyone.  I used to collect vintage back when it was rather cheap, from local shops here in NW Washington, DC.  (sadly all gone now but I have some great memories and stories of that era haha).

Been getting back into it in recent years after getting hooked on The Grey NATO podcast, etc.   Would love to see and hear about other folk's watches and stories as well.

Regards,

Thanks.  Well, if you're new then it's still not too late to run away! 😉

Maybe I should start with the one about Dani, the ex-motorcycle mech turned watchmaker (temporarily at least) who sold me a Porsche Design by Orfina (like Tom Cruise's watch in TG, but non-PVD coated) for $400 but could never seem to get the lubrication just right so that it consistently reset properly.  I guess Lemania 5100 movements aren't at all similar to working on Moto Guzzis....😀

Anyway, sadly I sold it back to him for what I paid.  Smart move I know....

Welcome to WC. Do you regret getting rid of those old vintage pieces now that you're interest has been renewed?

I'd like to say I've no regrets in life but I gotta admit YES!

It was nothing to pick up Rolex GMT 1675s and 5513s for under $2500 back then (on original bracelets).  Friend of mine had a Paul Newman that he used to brag was work almost 10K (LOL).  Ah... life before the internet took over.  I mean there was Timezone.com, but that was about it.

Anyway, although prices have increased the knowledge has too which is a good thing.

Cheers and happy hunting!

As much as the internet may have had a negative impact on watch prices, I can't imagine living without it. Information at your fingertips is a great thing, but separating the wheat from the chaff is another.😀

Yeah, everything in life is a tradeoff.

It's just hard to swallow some of the vintage prices lately....
