The 1992 Jules Audemars Piguet Review

Cognitive Dissonance, this is the only watch given to me by my uncle. Everything I knew then about watches is different than what I’ve been told about this watch.

To me, this should be a classic gentleman’s watch. However, I find it’s too precious and special to use. Apparently Asprey was commissioned by AP do produce this special watch.

Pros: it fits perfectly on my 7inch wrist. I love how its white gold finish has a solid feel to it. Like it’s a gents watch but I will let you know you have it on. I love the simple dial with the blue/purple tone done by Aspery.

Cons: white gold sure attracts dings and dongs. You kinda get the nerve to pull your sleeves longer to protect it.

Would I ever purchase this? Sure. Why not. In 2023 perhaps it’s in the hope to get allocation of Royalty In their line. But for an 18 year old kid maybe not. I love the gesture of my uncle who was a brilliant but simple man. He had no use for it but knew it’d change his nephews perspective.

Personally, this watch has sentimental value. Knowing it has history, commissioning by AP to Aspery. It’s made me dig deeper and find out the history. Such watches that commemorate history helps pass on the memory of the gift giver. To me, it’s an added bonus it’s an AP watch. It could have been any brand but I’d still treasure it today.

Watches with memories will always hold more value. Let’s pass them on to the next generation. This is horology true to all its forms. The history of the maker, the history of Asprey, the history within my family and finally the history of passing it down the generations. Watches are powerful! We gotta use it, care for it and treasure wearing it.

I’m just glad I have the opportunity to share this story here with WatchCrunch. Otherwise, who else will know??? So why Cognitive Dissonance, we are told to use it but when it has so much value we tell ourselves to treasure it. Keep it safe. I’ve got to learn to simply use it and take care of it.

Awesome story again. Love how this watch has passed down the generations. Use it...don't worry, AP will always service it.

Cool review. I think it's spelt Osprey. Some more pics would be great. The great thing about old watches is that finishing wasn't as precise as now. If you get a couple of swirlies they'll be barely noticeable.
