Vintage night at Somlo

First batch of wrist watch content from Somlo!

Kicking things off with their namesake vintage Omegas, we have some incredibly sought after examples here.

First up is a platinum Apollo 11 40th anniversary Speedmaster. I’m admittedly not too familiar with my Speedy history, given how sized out you can see I am. But this was hilariously heavy, everyone in attendance had the same “woah…” as they raised and lowered their arm once they tried it on. Probably not my pick, but this was number 20 of only 69 watches made - numbered on the crest on the left sub dial.

Next a more modern interpretation for the Apollo 11 50th anniversary Speedmaster, in “moonshine gold.” This felt like titanium compared to the platinum one! It’s still realistically pretty chunky though compared to the steel. It felt a lot more vintage inspired in person, with the onyx indices giving it a more unique look to the classic speedy. Also kinda made me feel like I was an incredibly successful used car salesman in the 80s. That’s a good and a bad thing.

Then…the PLOPROF. Whilst the staff handed us everything from Patek perpetuals (more to come on that) to 100 year old Cartiers, this was the Omega I wanted to see. I love it. I really love it. At just under a 6in wrist, I couldn’t wait to see how daft it looked. The bracelet was incredibly comfortable. I’d 100% rock this watch like I’m a power ranger about to realise it’s a quarter past morphing time. This is the watch 8 year old me would have wanted.

I can’t say I know a whole lot about the last one, other than the complications involved. Honestly, a little too much going on for me. Feels like a Speedy for the person who wants to wear one watch and one only.

I put the 40th anniversary in twice, just to emphasise how heavy it is.

Nice quattro there, wouldn't mind trying out that platinum awesomeness myself even if for experience only
