No more Citizens

I have the #citizen watches that I like, and I won’t buy more… why? Because I only like the ones I have. They are complicated to adjust, and you have to search for YouTube videos to figure out how to do it. I must admit that the Eco-Drive technology is extraordinary, and the rechargeable batteries are easily replaceable when they no longer work.

However, every time I glance at the Citizen showcases, I see large, ornate watches with overloaded dial designs that feel entirely impersonal. I hope Citizen returns to being the company it was in the seventies.☹️

Imo. Citizen is the pinnacle of tool watches, So yes I agree 👍

I have a Blue Angels Edition and the dial is very difficult to read, and I did have to watch a YouTube video on how to set it. Very complicated…

I love it for what it is, and I won’t be getting rid of it because I have had this watch the longest, but I agree with pretty much everything you’re saying!

Only instance I've ever needed a YouTube video to adjust a watch is one of my Edifices, but I love that watch quite a lot. My other two Citizens are fantastic too

I do like some of the complicated ones. But yeah the poor design of the controls puts me off. I think they need to invest in new tech like Casio do. These Citizen movements are like 2-3 decades old (anyone know the exact year they made these?)

Casio's analog-digital models are so much simpler to use and many have modern features like Bluetooth.

But I just don't love their cases and straps. Too much plastic for $800. I want a nice titanium case that doesn't look like Inspector Gadget and Ben Ten had a baby..

I remember back in the day when my friends and I used to have heated debates about which watch brand was better – #citizen Seiko, or Casio. We often excluded Casio from the discussion since they were just getting started with their G-Shocks. Your comments are extraordinary and spot on, as they articulate much better what I wanted to convey (inspector Gadget 🤣). Citizen has to reflect on the direction of their software and hardware designs. Best regards, and thanks for your insights.

I always thought that they look fantastic. They are a classic watch and I do like the Citizen brand but I would not buy one myself. The reason is my brain would hurt working all the stuff out, and if it that complicated then I would probably use my phone or an app. The legibility is confusing to say the least. But to a small amount of people they are incredibly useful I guess. Which begs the question what complications do we actually need and use and that is different for us all. My work watch (a G-Shock) has everything that I personally use. A countdown timer and an hourly beep, the other stuff like alarm I use once in a blue moon. The Citizen is great, but for me it puts itself in the fashion watch category. I have seen a fair few on WC and always think they look amazing and good luck to those that own them.

I agree impressive technology and some of their watches are too busy but I also think they have lots of variety to offer

Hoping to get a vintage Citizen eventually
