Lining up the winter projects…

Winter in Anchorage is long and dark and I’ve got my winter projects lined up. I’ve been on the fence about starting the journey into actual watch repair and restoration, but Sunday I ordered a heap of beginner tools from Esslinger, cleaner and a couple all purpose watch lubricants.

The plan is:

They two HMTs first. The blue Pilot just needs a new stem and the Chethan (which is a bit rare) either needs the balance reseated or replaced. I’ve got a Janata with a red Devranagari dial just for parts (and it actually runs).

Second, the ‘75 Timex Marlin. Has a really nice case and the rare “waffle” dial is stunning. Needs a good cleaning, service, and the Speidel bracelet is going into the bin. Thinking a nice black leather strap on that one. (Taking suggestions for other colors)

Finally, my beloved ‘82 Citizen 7. I bought this watch a bit over a year ago and this thing kept incredible time. The flat deep blue looks incredible IRL.  Late last  summer I was wearing it, running well, and it just stopped.  I suspect dust stopped a gear or that maybe a screw came  slightly loose and is blocking something. I’m just scared of getting into the 8200A inside as it’s a  very nice movement and a bit complicated.

Anyways, I’ll get started probably at the end of October.

Wish me luck!

Report back, success or something short. Repair and restoration is the logical next step for many of us, even those who sit on the sidelines.

Yeah it is! I’ve been wanting to finally get into it for a couple years now, preparing by watching Nekid Watchmaker and Wristwatch Revival… think I’m psyched  up and ready 😂
