Always match your leathers
I’ve seen a lot of posts recently about people coordinating their watch to their outfits. I don’t do this too much, as I maintain a fairly utilitarian wardrobe and watch collection, so it doesn’t require too much thought. However, I do have one rule that started long before watch collecting. It’s up there with:
- Never go the wrong way down a parking lot
- Never talk to another man while at the urinal
- Always shake hands standing up
- And…
Always match your leathers!
I thoroughly enjoy incorporating watches into this rule of dress. Although I have to admit, there are days I’m so glad for a bracelet so that I don’t have to worry about it 😅.
What rules do you have?
I’m a simple man. I like bourbon, 3-6-9 dials, and pretty, dark-haired women.
I generally abide by this as well, which sadly prevents me from wearing my dressiest watch with my dressiest shoes. Buckles have to match the case too, although I have a black buckle or two that I let slide.

I am less of a stickler for hardware. But for whatever reason, in my mind, the leathers gotta match.

Hand made! My wife’s aunt has made us three, one for each kiddo. This one is fall colors for our October baby, who will presumably arrive this October!

They’re SeaVees, and probably my favorite bit of footwear!

I have fond memories of my mother and grandmother setting up the quilting frame in the living room, and works for weeks on quilts. I have two of the ones they made, and my brother also has two.

That’s awesome. These are great quilts that I hope will be treasured by our kids for the love craftsmanship they represent. I sure think they’re neat!

And it makes me think that when I was a kid and didn’t want a summer watch band tan line, I’d fasten my cheap Casio digital band through my shoe laces. Yes, I wore my watch on my shoe! 🙄
