Seiko switched manufacturing locations from Singapore to Malaysia in 2005. I have a Seiko silver wave quartz(1978) that has a similar case to the skx. It is significantly thinner and smaller overall than the skx case. It really is fun getting lost in all the specifics with Seiko.

Fun indeed! Let's wait for more specifics from @litoben as he speaks with his officemate. Apparently it was inherited from his father.

Really cool... Is it the Father or Grandfather of the SKX? What year is it and what's its model number? @litoben and I are wondering. Thanks, bud!

Thanks for the kind words! The 173 was made for North American market around the same time as the skx. I believe this one was made 2009.

2009... that's interesting. @litoben has an officemate with a similar looking dive watch, but it's been estimated to be a 70s model.

My officemate's 7002, which his Dad passed on to him. Everything intact, just serviced with some lube. And inexpensive imitation strap.
