Is this an onyx dial?

Good morning guys..

i just want to know if this dial is an onyx dial or not. im not familiar with onyx. Thanks in advanxed

It appears to be. They go for £££s now. Check out the Aziz Ansari talking watches episode on YT.

Rolex only offered an Onyx dial on all yellow gold Day-Date and some vintage Datejusts in the 80s so they are very rare. It's hard to tell exactly from that picture because of the lighting but I suspect it's an aftermarket dial. If you look at the examples in this article about Rolex Onyx dials you'll see that the dial in the pic you posted is missing the "Swiss" marking at 6 o'clock.

I often see Rolexes listed on Chrono24 listed with "Onyx" dials but only rarely are they the authentic dials. Many sellers acknowledge they are aftermarket at least.

Yeah I read that article before I posted this…

i have the yellow gold 18k datejust and I would love to swap my current dials to onyx.

 the seller said it is factory Rolex dial however he doesn’t know if it’s onyx dial or not.

Ah yes. Long time since I watched it! Just remembered he had an Onyx dial Rolex and he got his Dad one too.
