Watch groupings or categories

After a few years as a watch enthusiast I tend to group my watches into seven broad categories, as follows - GADA, beater, pilot, dive, chronograph, GMT and vintage/dress watches.

Now the field watch enthusiasts will be up in arms but, for me, a field watch with decent water resistance is either a GADA or a beater depending on looks and price.

And for the dress watch enthusiasts, I can recognise a lovely dress watch but I just don’t wear one often enough but I do like vintage watches and their smaller dimensions and classic looks means they are likely what I would wear if I want something a little smarter.

Below are a couple of representative photos of these groups from my watches. I don’t call it a “collection” as they are so randomly acquired and the distribution is heavily skewed towards dive watches followed by beaters, vintage/dress and then GADA watches with only a few chronograph, GMT and pilot watches; this is a pretty accurate reflection of what I like and wear.

Be very interested to see similar representative pics of Crunchers watches as it might inspire me.

And do let me know if a seven watch watch box exists?

N.b. I thought I might manage a couple of single brand pics with either Citizen and/or Seiko but I am light on a Seiko Chronograph and a Citizen GMT (or pilot if I treat the Navihawk as a GMT), which means I need to be on the lookout for … this really is an addiction! Now I suspect someone out there could do one with all Swiss watches - that would be something!

I try to make sure I have watches from different types like the ones you mentioned but because my collection is so diver heavy that isn’t how I store them. I store mine based on where the brands are based so:

UK & Asia

Switzerland and the EU

And I have my watch winder that has my moonphase and whichever watch doesn’t fit in one of these boxes

Definitely I don’t store mine in seven watch groups, I just pulled those pics together to illustrate my thinking. I too have way too many divers for that!

But it got me thinking that a seven watch watch box would be brilliant as I could pick out a week’s worth of watches ahead of time and run a good rotation that way.

Some v nice watches there - Particularly like your O&W on the beads of rice. I have my eye on one but to get a timing bezel (rather than 12 hour or tachy) is tricky or rather pricey … one day. There aren’t many O&W stockists here in the UK and importing pumps up their prices too much.
