Selling Watches in Australia

Any tips on best options for selling watches from crunchers down under?

Most online platforms don't seemed to be as geared towards Australia as US/Europe.

Looking to sell my Black Bay Pro after order placed for new 58 GMT.

Much appreciated!

That's a novel watchbox, comes with its own expandable pouch. Cool 😎

Hi Steve, do you know if Watchfinder have any presence there or Watchbox? I can recommend both for ease of use and trust. Watchbox in my experience is a bit faster but both good.

The best way to maximise your final sale price is to sell it privately on your own via Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, etc. Advertise it there, and hopefully the potential buyer is local so you can meet them and finalise the deal.

You could also try to consign through a bricks & mortar dealer (if you're in Sydney - Vintage Watch Co, Luxuria, Zaeger, Watch Connect are few who could help). But they will charge you a commission for the trouble. If you try to sell it to a dealer direct, you might want to make sure you're sitting down when they give you their offer (and then if you accept it I wouldn't want to look at their website to see what they end up trying to sell it for).

Best advice though - try to hold onto the piece if you can, buy the new one, and enjoy !

Really appreciate the post buddy. I have it on Gumtree as an initial step but it has already attracted the wrong kind of attention.

I'll take a look at those suggestions.

I'm not in a rush to sell, but I have my eye on a couple of pieces and have already spent enough on watches without considering letting any go.

Thanks psycho! I've looked at Watchfinder but it's not clear if this is a local presence or just the same as people see internationally. Will look at Watchbox.

I'd drop them a message and ask. Their model is to take up a small place in a dept store or a multi brand boutique. You hand the piece in, they give you a receipt and they will contact you in a week or so to confirm the offer. With watchbox they will have an office and usually check it that day and pay. Do not go anywhere near Chronext!

Cheers, Stu 🍻
