Ferer Roche Review

When it comes to a daily wear watch, you can get a sense of what that persons life is like day to day.  I'm speculating and generalizing here but a Police Officer might wear a G-shock as a daily because of the physical nature of the work.  A coach might wear a chronograph of some sort.  And a salesman would be wise to wear something non distracting, yet of good quality....but not too good.  An MB&F, for example, on a salesman would be horrible as it is distracting and anyone he is selling to would feel like they are funding his lifestyle. A Longines, on the other hand, would be the sweet spot.

I would love to say that my daily job is a YouTube watch reviewer and I spend all day turning away watch reviews because I'm too busy rubbing shoulders with Moser Watches and A. Lang & Sohne fighting for my time...but that isn't the case quite obviously.  My 9-5 (who am I kidding, it's more like 6a-8p) is that I run a Cyber Security Encryption team for a large financial firm.  I manage people in India, Florida, Texas, Buenos Aires, Geneva, and Singapore...a truly global team.

For me, the sweet spot is a World Timer.  I like chronographs, but sitting at a desk all day does not warrant a chronograph.  And yes I have dive watches in my collection but I barely even like a heated pool.  But this WorldTimer is a complication I have found myself using many times per day and especially on the weekends when technology fails or upgrades are happening and I need updates from my team around the globe.

This World Timer, the Roche, from Farer far exceeded my expectations.  I was torn between this and a Zodiac WT SeaWolf

Having had a few Zodiacs I was very familiar with their quality, but I just kept going back to the Farer.  I am not ashamed to admit that to me, the aesthetics of watch are more important to me that the movement.  A watch is something you look at all damn day, it MUST look good, you have to like it and it can't get on your nerves or have a "thing" about it that bugs you.  To me, the Farer had so many character boxes checked about watches much more expensive than its $1400 price would suggest that I always long for.  Bremont watch cases are simply works of art, and I am not going to say this has THAT amount of detail but it DOES aspire to be that good.  The numerals that are applied are 3-D printed from Super-Luminova just like Vertex watches.  They are't quite as meticulous, but you can only see the difference under macro and even then, man do they look good.

Then there is the movement, an ETA 2839 that is very well finished with a custom rotor as well as the dual crowns both with appropriate decoration just enough to feel special.

Then we have the dial.  The outer 'chapter ring' where the cities are printed, is lumed and turns with very positive feedback via the 10 o'clock crown.  The middle portion is midnight blue and until you see it in person you wont understand that it is a rich and thick part of the dial as the inner 24 hour markers falls just below that part of the dial.  The hands have a lot of character, especially the second hand with a heavy arrow at the tip that lumes nice and bright.

In conclusion, I was not sure what to expect from Farer but based on my first week with this watch, I would put my level of satisfaction right up there with my Zelos.  You might think thats a slam on Farer but what I mean is that I couldn't believe the level of quality the Zelos has for the price, and I feel the same here.  Not once have I questioned the price of this watch, I have only been floored that it ONLY costs as much as it did.

If you are interested in seeing more, I do have both the unboxing as well as the full review up on my Youtube now.

Just saw this watch in person at windup in SF, was there for 5 hours and 4 of those hours were spent at the farer booth. By far an understated brand that goes their own way. Didn’t purchase a watch from at the time, but got home watched your videos went to bed then woke up and this world timer was my first thought. Proceeded to farers website to purchase. Thanks for posting a great video on this watch and excited to experience mine when it comes!

Beautiful timepiece! I just got the new version two and they’ve improved on the legibility of the countries and made a few adjustments and have it updated Sellita movement. I’m enjoying it so so far for the past week, but I realize that I need to go to my optometrist to read the countries properly and update my prescription lol
