So I saw the video and thought that the watches looks colourful and fun.

Not my style but I could see these getting some attention. The bands look cool, I would get one of them for my collection. The price they're asking for these watches is too much, in my opinion.

I’m not usually one for critiquing videos as I tend to avoid many of them… but that is a very slick production. Novel transitions, excellent shots and lighting, detailed macros - this guy just sold me a watch out of nowhere. I am scared to check out any more videos, he’s a wizard.

True, which is why I'm waiting for the Kickstarter to launch. Usually they give discounts during the duration of the campaign, right?

Agreed. I guess he does it to counter his monotone delivery. That said, dude really sold the watch.

He needs to work on that, but I guess once he gets more comfortable over time that will change - but the production is brilliant. He just put a random colourful dive watch on my radar and sold it to me, wholesale, in 8 minutes - I’m usually allergic to stuff like this, so not many people can do that. I am still wondering what just happened.

I weirdly already got emailed by them. The kickstarter goes live the 1st of February. There is a discount but I still find it a bit steep. I do like the colourways, guess it depends on the singapore dollar to euro conversion rate with this one. (And duties, taxes, shipping...)

"From 1 Feb to 8 Mar, DUAL’s KS Launch Edition is priced at US$519 (20% / $130 off retail price of $649). Each colorway is limited to 100 individually numbered Launch Edition pieces and shipping is targeted for July 2024."

Ugh. I'll just wait for Aerotec's Black Label divers then. I guess Ubiq's boss couldn't get good prices with the factory. Pity.

The problem with all these watch companies is they really don’t offer anything unique or timeless. And if you’re asking for that price. You better be unique or timeless.

Now it’s just a designer who picks bezels and colors and tells a Chinese factory to slap on its logo (the only truly unique aspect).

That said, they should maybe just shift into being a strap company. Their straps look cool

True. But I guess it's nice to see a first timer trying to show us that he can be bold with his colour choices.

The straps are nothing unusual, I saw them in a couple of AliExpress watch straps stores. Now I'm just wondering who made that design originally.

Quite like them, but this is a curious discussion telling of times. Clearly, people have gotten burned by years of too many china-factorystock-ripoffs and gotten very sceptical kickstarter launches - justly so. But has this made it impossible to tell real passion projects and brave first designs from all the calculated fake ones trying to sound authentic - Is that any longer even possible within the scope of "normal watches"?

Great points. Being the brand owner, I have read each and every comment and it some times veers into the topic that this is just another chinese knock off, or it's a factory brand with us just slapping on a logo. It does get discouraging occasionally as I went through many iterations to get it where it is. Micro millimeters of adjustments just to make sure the lollipop falls into the squircles, date window to be symmetrical within the confines of the date wheel size and many more. Just gotta plan relevant content for socials to tell our story properly I guess.

But hey, after many years in the design industry if I learnt anything is that design is very subjective. Some will love it while others loathe. But it does keep me going knowing there are more positive than negative comments in the grand scheme of things.

Just a week left and I hope I never have to run a KS campaign again. The emotional roller coaster is stressing me out! Haha.
