MY BIG BROTHER’S OMEGA DARK SIDE OF THE MOON WATCH
I have already lost count of the too many years since my big brother passed away in a hospital IC unit but he is in my thoughts daily, relentlessly! Tremendously flawed, well loved by everybody he touched during his 58 short years. He was not really a watch guy( bought a few to humour his addicted brother) much more connected to audio systems and cars, at first stupid gas guzzling Detroit muscle cars, later dark brooding German sedans when it was finally time to live in the world of grown ups. During the 60s he would hide my British Invasion 45s, an affront to his Elvis and Motown records but later he discovered the magical music performed by Pink Floyd especially their tour de force: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON,I have never been a fan of the so called Moon watch but did respect the DSOM iteration as compelling, a little too much coin for what it is, I was walking in Toronto’s Yorkville district one late morning this spring, some guy had an old fashion boom box blaring Pink Floyd’s WISH YOU WERE HERE, he is who we used to call
simply”A Yorkville character” now he is just “odd”, perhaps that is unkind.
My whimsical credit card is still valid so I slipped into my multi brand ad’s boutique and bought without careful consideration my first and last Moonwatch. I am taking my cue from another member who dedicated his Rolex to his late dad, much regards, my black ceramic Omega is for remembering my adored Big Brother! Departed but never forgotten!

My family emigrated from HK to Canada in the winter of 1956, cannot recall when I did not dabble with mechanical timepieces. Started with vintage but too many crooks in the business. Discovered videos...

I’m a fan of Pink Floyd. I have been my whole life. I’ve seen them in concert and I’ve worn thier albums out. What a fantastic tribute and a noble way honor your bother. Wear your DSOM in good health and with better memories.
