Rolex or Panerai

Love the panerai. have a pam 1000. Time for the next watch and like most people, want a Rolex but I can’t get my hands on one (a new piece not a resale). Should I just go for a new panerai (they have some fantastic pieces) or wait for a Rolex (wont get a professional piece in any case, will probably get a oyster perpetual or a date just with a year’s waiting). Isn’t it a bit too much to wait for a year for a watch?

I would say get the Panerai RIGHT NOW!  If, a year from now, you get a call from the AD for a Rolex, you can decide then whether you want to sell one of your other watches to get the Rolex.

Beyond that, as I get older, I'm realizing more and more that life is short and regret is real.  You could get hit by a bus tomorrow.  I mean, imagine that the rear passenger tire of the MTA bus runs over your head at 9:03am, and at 9:04am, you're sitting at the pearly gates, chatting it up with St. Bernard or whichever saint it's supposed to be up there, checking the naughty and the nice list, and he says to you, "Any regrets?" What's your answer going to be? "Yeah, I was a complete moron. Instead of getting the Panerai, I decided to save my money, to pay off my debt / increase my credit score / buy lots of proscuitto. And, now, I realize that what they say about how you can't take it with you is right. I could have had a new Panerai for a while and enjoyed my life. Instead, I was waiting for the bus, I dropped my pocket calculator, stooped to pick it up, then slipped on that banana peel, and my head went right under that tire, and now I'm up here, with no beautiful memories to look back upon. My entire life was one big waste."
