State Of The Collection

A few years ago I realised that my watch “collection” was getting out of hand….

Too many watches and not enough time.

Since then I’ve been reducing and focusing the watches down to a manageable 3 set that you see above.

GMWB5000TB - the Casio G shock is an absolute legend, it is its own category and has no rivals, the square is the original iteration of that idea. It is form and function in balance.

It’s not trying to look like a sports watch, it is one. (granted that could of course be argued for these 2 as they are more along the line towards jewellery)

This one is DLC covered titanium - I love the lighter weight and warmer feel on the skin compared to steel.

This watch is the low key, high quality, stealthy, beaterish, backup daily watch in my collection.

- this watch made me realise that there are levels above the average plastic GShock and that Casio is capable of high quality watch making, this encouraged me to buy…….

MRGB5000D-1 - This watch is an absolute monster in terms of quality and feeling.

It feels like it’s punching well above its weight.

I love it so much.

The shiney high polished cobarium bezel is a scratch magnet - like every other mirror polished surface but it looks beautiful right now it’s fresh.

This watch is highly accurate- and the functionality is great - stop watch - countdown timer- alarms- just what I need - you can connect to an app to adjust settings which I like but it’s not a smart watch sending my every heartbeat to skynet- which I wanted to avoid.

Tudor Prince Date Day 76213 - black dial

I’ve always loved the classic oystercase shape of the datejust and day date, but don’t love the prices, risk of ownership or much else associated with the Rolex brand.

This Tudor is exactly what I wanted, it does everything I want it too, the fact that it has an ETA movement (running at about 2 seconds a day) is perfect for me, knowing a local watch maker can probably fix any issues quickly and for a reasonable price is what I wanted.

The black dial is more of a gloss (I’m not a huge fan of sunburst dials and they are the standard these days)

I also love the gold touches.

The size is comfortable as is the bracelet and clasp, I’m not afraid of a pressed clasp, they may not be all the rage these days but they are so comfortable & slim.

This one has the crown in the right position that I really like.

The watches above represent the limit of what I’m prepared to spend on a watch and feel comfortable with wearing or possibly losing without it being a major tragedy that I’ll never financially or emotionally recover from.

I’m extremely happy with these 3 watches and can see myself keeping them for the rest of my life (that’s the plan anyway - lol see you here next year to see how i got on with that)

There are other watches that I love (many many watches) and some that I’ve long pondered getting for myself… but I’m trying to limit my collection because otherwise I’ll just go crazy and want everything and apart from being financially unrealistic, I’m not sure it would make me happy anyway, so I’m trying to be grateful for what I have and enjoy them.

I of course have other watches - from my past or family but I won’t wear them and just keep them as sentimental treasure that makes me feel happy - (possible exception of the square Versace from my previous Sotc- I could see myself wearing that under a cuff if the moment took me but haven’t in a while)

I love seeing and reading everyone’s sotc’s as it gives an insight into the minds of other people and their connection to watches.

I consider myself a watch enthusiast and not a watch collector & I feel this has really helped me understand what I’m doing here.

Anyway thanks for listening to me ramble on.

Merry Christmas everyone….
